Disclosure: Helsa is our product. We aim to be fair: every fact about another app links to the public source we checked, and we point out where other apps are the better fit.
How we chose
- We only included apps you can use without wearing a continuous glucose monitor (CGM).
- We left out apps whose current status we couldn’t confirm from an official source.
- Every price, platform and feature comes from the company’s own website, help center or app store listing, checked on September 30, 2026. See the sources at the bottom of the page.
- Where we couldn’t verify something from a public source, we left it out and marked it “Not verified”.
- Helsa is our product, so we list it first, and we say plainly where another app is the better fit. We don’t use affiliate links.

Frequently asked questions
Can an app track blood sugar without a CGM?
Apps can't measure glucose on their own. Without a CGM, they either log readings from a fingerstick meter (mySugr, OneTouch Reveal, Glucose Buddy), estimate your glucose response from food and health data (January AI), or coach the daily habits that drive blood sugar (Helsa).
Which blood sugar apps are free?
OneTouch Reveal is free. mySugr, Glucose Buddy, January AI and Helsa have free versions with paid upgrades, and Levels' app membership costs $15 a month or $80 a year.
Are glucose predictions accurate without a sensor?
They're estimates, not measurements. January AI, for example, says its predictions start from an assumed fasting baseline rather than your current glucose. For exact numbers, use a glucose meter or a CGM.
Do I need a CGM if I have prediabetes?
Not necessarily. Many people with prediabetes follow their progress with A1C blood tests and focus on daily habits like diet, activity and sleep. A CGM can add useful real-time feedback, so ask your doctor what testing makes sense for you.
Which apps work with a fingerstick glucose meter?
mySugr logs readings automatically from Accu-Chek Guide and Guide Me meters, OneTouch Reveal is designed for wireless OneTouch meters, and Glucose Buddy lets you log readings manually.
